A circular sinkhole about 300 m across and more than 120 m deep on Lighthouse Reef atoll, part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System. The standard dive drops to about 40 m to see stalactites under the overhang, so it is for advanced divers. Day trips from Ambergris Caye or Belize City take two to three hours each way by boat.
Great Blue Hole is a scuba diving spot in Lighthouse Reef, Belize. The usual season is Apr–Jun; outside it, good days are rarer.

For scuba diving it weighs surface waves, surface wind and rain. Epic is 85–100 (worth flying for), Good is 65–84 (worth a short hop), Fair is 50–64 (rideable), Poor is 0–49 (skip). Scuba Diving is partly tracked: forecasts don't include underwater visibility, current and water temperature, so the score tops out at 84 and is never Epic.
Fly into BZE (Belize City, Philip S. W. Goldson International). The flight link on this page opens Aviasales with dates set to the next good spell. Any price shown comes from recent Aviasales searches, not a live quote.
Underwater visibility, current, and water temperature are not measured; the score reflects surface conditions only. Swell is modeled for the nearest open-water cell, which can be rougher than a sheltered dive site. Marine notices and operator restrictions are not scored. Always check local conditions before you go.
